Hi, I am Alocasia!
I have dark green, almost black leaves that shine like leather, with striking silvery veins that give me a regal look. My leaves can grow up to 50 cm tall!
I am a slow grower, but with proper care, such as regular watering without leaving the roots standing in water, I will develop an imposing beauty and bring a tropical touch to your home.
I grew up in the warm forests of southern Asia. You can imagine that is quite a difference compared to here! I can grow several meters tall with giant leaves in these warm forests. Here I am also used as an umbrella to take shelter from the rains. Then those big leaves of mine come in handy.
Where should you place me?
A bright spot, please put me there. Just make sure my leaves are not in direct sunlight, I don't like this.
What do I like?
Give me a sip of lukewarm water regularly, I thrive on this. I don't like too much water, so watch out for that. Twice a month I like to get some fertilizer, but only during the growing season.

Plantanious works together with the Work with Nature foundation. Our tropical rainforests are disappearing at a rapid pace and an enormous biodiversity is being lost along with the trees. If it were up to us, the jaguar would soon walk around again in the rainforest in Costa Rica protected by 'Adopt Rainforest'! The place where many of our special plants originate. In order to make an important contribution to the goal of the foundation - to protect 2,000 hectares of rainforest in the next ten years - we donate part of our turnover to protect part of the tropical rainforest. To achieve their goal, the foundation puts money into protection, conservation, reforestation, education and research.
